Frequently Asked Questions

On this page you'll find answers to the most frequently asked questions about materials, dimensions, custom manufacturing and ordering. If you don't find your answer here, don't hesitate to contact us using the inquiry form.

Materials and Their Properties

  • What materials are used to manufacture sealing profiles?

The company processes rubber (EPDM and NBR), silicone (VMQ) and plastics (PVC, TPE, LD/HDPE). From rubber it manufactures both compact and cellular (foam) profiles, and for silicone also solid and microporous versions — always according to the required resistance and application.

  • What is the difference between EPDM and NBR sealing?

EPDM is resistant to weathering, ozone and UV radiation, making it suitable for outdoor applications in construction and automotive. NBR, on the other hand, is resistant to oils and fuels, so it is used where the seal comes into contact with mineral oils.

  • What is the difference between compact and cellular rubber?

Compact rubber is a solid, dense material for classic sealing against liquids and gases. Cellular rubber (EPDM or an SBR/EPDM blend) is softer, more pliable and lighter — suitable where higher elasticity is needed under lower compression, e.g. for door and window seals.

  • Is silicone sealing suitable for the food industry?

Yes — we also manufacture silicone profiles with FDA certification, making them suitable for direct contact with food. Silicone also withstands extreme temperatures and ozone well.

  • What temperature resistance do rubber seals have?

Both compact and cellular rubber (EPDM/NBR) typically withstand −40 °C to +100 °C. EPDM profiles with metal reinforcement have an extended range of −55 °C to +130 °C.

Dimensions, Tolerances and Product Labeling

  • What dimensional tolerances do extruded rubber profiles have?

Tolerances are governed by ČSN ISO 3302-1:2015 for freely vulcanized extruded products. They are standardly manufactured in precision class E2/E3 for cross-section and L2 for length — for example, for a cross-section up to 1.5 mm the tolerance is ±0.25 mm, and for a length up to 40 mm it is ±1.00 mm. More information about tolerances.

  • What does the alphanumeric code on the product mean?

The code in the format ABCDE FGHI JKL carries the complete specification of the profile: profile type, material, hardness, color, cross-sectional shape, dimensions in millimeters, packaging type and number of strands. This code allows the product to be uniquely identified and reordered. More information about product numbering.

  • What profile shapes do we offer?

Catalogue contains over 1,500 standard profiles — letter shapes C, D, H, L, P, T and U, as well as circular, square and rectangular profiles and a range of special shapes, self-adhesive, flocked and glazing profiles, optionally with metal reinforcement.

  • How are profiles joined into frames or closed shapes?

Profiles can be joined by vulcanization — butt or angled, on Desma and LWB VCE injection presses — or by bonding, for example using a semi-automatic NorMec press with a 30-second working cycle and an integrated seam grinder. The choice of method depends on the material and the required joint strength.

Custom Manufacturing and Ordering

  • Do you manufacture sealing profiles to custom designs?

Yes — in addition to more than 1,500 standard profiles, the company develops over 150 new custom profiles per year to customer specifications, from material selection through cross-sectional shape to surface treatment (coating, flocking).

  • How does the inquiry form work?

Through the inquiry form you can contact our sales department — whether you want a price quote, samples, a price list or catalogue, or already know the exact product code and want to place a direct order for the required quantity. The same form is used for both.

  • What delivery and payment options are available?

Goods can be collected in person or delivered by PPL courier or Czech Post. Payment can be made in cash, by advance bank transfer, on invoice, or cash on delivery.

Company, Quality and Documentation

  • What quality certifications does PROFILY, s.r.o. hold?

The company has a certified quality management system according to ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016 for the automotive industry. It manufactures at its own facility in Vítkov and has been on the market for over 25 years, with more than 1,000 customers worldwide.

  • Where can I find the product catalogue or safety data sheets for download?

The Downloads page has a PDF catalogue of all manufactured profiles, the quality policy, ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certificates, and safety data sheets for EPDM and NBR materials — all available as free PDF downloads.
